Stormy Day

Tuesday morning was beautiful. After breakfast we met for our meeting and then proceeded down the hill for the 9am games. The final scores were once again close. There were some exciting contests. Before we knew it the campers were grabbing canteen and then they were off to their individual instruction locations.

The weather was still great at lunch. It was so great that we decided to send three teams to the outdoor pool during rest period. They were able to enjoy their hour but when it came time to pick up the next three teams for their time at the pool we had to cancel. Storms surrounded the area. We could hear the rumble of thunder which meant lightning was not far. All of the teams had to stay on dorm until we got the 'all clear'.

With the threat still looming at 4pm we decided to play indoor games only. Teams loaded onto mini-buses and headed down the hill. The eight teams scheduled to play outdoors used the time to practice indoors and also watch some of the other matches. A large group gathered around handball and dodgeball. Both sports are recent additions to Sports Camp and have been a big hit ever since.

During dinner we kept an eye on the weather. Typically our night games begin promptly at 7pm. Finally at around 6:40pm, our trainer Brad, gave the all clear for night games. The clouds began to break up and the sun came through. It turned out to be a beautiful evening.

The games were quite exciting. Two of the matches went into overtime. Brown and Texas were scoreless in soccer at the end of regulation time. They ended up playing two overtime periods before Brown finally scored. Both goalkeepers were amazing. In Sports Camp, if the score had been tied at the end of the two overtime periods there would have been a 'shoot out'. This game, however ended after the second overtime when Texas could not answer the Brown goal.

In the cage Brown and Harvard traded baskets for four quarters. They too played an overtime period. In the end Oregon won by a score of 25-24.

Today promises to be beautiful. Things are looking good. The sun is out and the birds are chirping. It's going to be a great day. Enjoy!
