Close games, Overtime and Shootouts

Last night's game between LSU and Notre Dame was one of the most exciting games in Sports Camp history. It was a perfect way to end a perfect day.

The two teams traded goals right up until the end of regulation time. The game was tied at 4. Toward the end of the first five-minute overtime period LSU scored an amazing goal but within seconds Notre Dame's star player took a shot from center field. It went right over the top of LSU's goal keeper. There was no saving this goal. It was incredible. The score remained tied at the end of the two overtime periods. Notre Dame was victorious in the penalty kick phase of the game. Both keepers blocked the first four kicks but the final kick was too much for the LSU goal keeper going top shelf just over his head. There was no shame in losing this game. It was something to watch!

In addition to games yesterday we also held the first of the Team/Individual Competitions. Every camper will compete in an individual competition on behalf of their team. The player and the coaches decide who competes in which competition. After rest period the camp divided into four groups. Dozens watched the Strong Man competition, soccer shootout, lacrosse shootout or the 400m run.

Today is 'sleep in day' and week one is officially finished. It has been a wonderful week. We've experienced some adversity and have prevailed. We're blessed to be with this group this summer. It is a fantastic ensemble of campers and counselors and we can't wait to see what week two brings. Have a beautiful day!
