We Are Almost There

The power is back on in most places on campus. We have power in all but one dorm right now. The Barbee still seems to be without power as well. We've been told it's only a matter of time before they are on line too.

I will have a complete blog update and game scores in the morning.

Until then, have a pleasant evening.

We're Still Cruisin'

We are still without power. Everyone is fine. We are making it through.

There are still tournament games being played and yesterday afternoon we had "The Draft". The Draft is an annual event that takes place prior to the King's Dominion field trip. The campers are asked to assemble into a small group that they want to hang at King's Dominion with. The small teams then give themselves a name. They usually come up with very creative names like, The Four Gregs, The Raleigh Boys or The Flaming China Men. Once the entire camp is assembled together, the names of all of the counselors are placed on a board. The teams then choose their top 3 or 4 counselors that they would like to hang out with at KD. Coach Alexander has a list of cards that have the names of the teams on it. He chooses one and that group gets the "first pick of the first round of the 2012 Draft". This goes on until each team has chosen a counselor. There were some left over counselors... so a few teams got a second round pick.

The WFS dining hall crew has been fabulous. They put on a  beautiful cold breakfast and deli meat lunch. Last evening's dinner consisted of hamburgers on the grill. On dorm last night each team had a few pizzas delivered. So, we're not starving and we have running water. Each team even has their own lantern.

Check out this link http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/deadly-super-derecho-strikes-m/67383   We found out a little about the storm that came through on Friday. What was so amazing to us is that the storm blew through around 10pm and by 11pm half our grounds crew and maintenance staffed arrived to begin clean up. They took a break after working through the early morning hours. When they came back they had our little campers helping them. Several teams took to the grounds and picked up branches and sticks. They even cleared a huge pine tree that had landed on the Varsity tennis courts. It was an incredible community clean up project.

We are not sure how long the power will be out. We'll try to update you daily. Remember you can reach WFS by calling our switchboard. They have radios that can reach the camp. The switchboard number is 540-672-3900.

I wish I could load up some pics, but the internet service isn't strong enough to do pictures(it took 10 minutes to do the one I added above) We'll get you caught up - hopefully - later in the week.

We feel blessed and thankful for getting through the events of the past 48 hours!
