Father's Day June 16, 2013.... The campers began
arriving early for The 46th Woodberry Forest Sports Camp.
Once all the moving in was done the families could
head over to the Walker Building for lunch in our dining hall. And it begins...
"kid food".. Chicken patty sandwiches was the fare for lunch today.
Dinner was spaghetti and lunch on Monday will be CORN DOGS! Yum. The
fresh and healthy salad bar is always an option.
And parents...I have noticed that lots of kids
frequent the salad bar and they always eat the vegetable offering that comes
with every plate of corn dogs, chicken fingers or hamburger. You've done your
job!
After a brief meeting at Johnson Stadium, we didn't
waste anytime getting started. Coach Alexander met with new campers and old
campers and went over camp expectations. The teams broke off into conferences and
held a “conference” meeting about winning the Moubray Conference cup. After
that, each team had a "team meeting" and set their “team goals” for
camp. Once that was accomplished
they finally practiced a sport.
Before dinner we had an individual instruction
session. This is where the campers break off into their "age groups".
They learn or practice a sport such as swimming, basketball, golf, tennis,
speed training, etc.. Then it was dinner time!
After dinner the camp met up on the steps of the Dick
Gym. This is where we will hold our daily morning meeting. Tonight Coach Alexander
spoke about the evening activities which would once again be team practice. The
groups were set up by conference so that the conference director could be
present for assistance. After practice, it was time to hit the showers and then
grab a snack! The guys were offered water and a light snack. As of right now
they are all safely on dorm enjoying the Spurs/Heat game!
It was a great first day. We are so thankful you
sent your little guys to us. It is going to be a great three weeks!
