It's Hot Hot Hot!

Yesterday the group had a chance to cool off at Water Country USA. A trip to the water park always comes at the right time. After a day of frolicking and fun at Water Country, the entire camp was revived and ready to get back to competition today.

Water Country, USA is part of the Busch Gardens chain located in Williamsburg, VA. It is Virginia's largest water park which includes more than 30 rides.

Some of the favorites include the 23,000 sq. ft. wave pool and  the Hubba Bubba highway (kick back and enjoy the winding river like water way). Big Daddy Falls simulates white water rafting and is a fun group experience. The most daring riders take on The Aquazoid, Meltdown, Wild Thang and Jet Stream. The names speak for themselves.

The park is filled with tasty restaurants and outdoor pavilions and a famous CANDY STORE. For the second year in a row, we had a nice schedule set up so that each team was able to visit the candy store at some point during the afternoon. In the past, the candy store was the last stop on the tour of the water park and inevitably ended up in delaying the departure of the buses. The schedule has proven to be a success. No more delays!

This morning the camp was ready to go. At morning meeting we awarded camper of the day and coach of the day for good deeds on Sunday the 23rd and then everyone headed down the hill for the morning games followed by individual instruction and then back up for lunch.

It was a hot one today! The temperatures reached close to 90 degrees. Our guys know how to stay hydrated though. There is a cooler of water at every game field or court and at canteen the boys are offered both water and Gatorade.

There was some heavy competition today. During the morning session Yale and Michigan played an overtime soccer match with the Wolverine's coming out on top 5-4. Inside at the hockey court, Notre Dame beat Texas 5-4 in overtime.

This afternoon both Yale and Notre Dame were once again involved in an overtime game on the football field. Yale pulled off the win in double overtime beating Notre Dame 13-6. Tonight's notable game was the match up between Wake Forest and Notre Dame. What a day Notre Dame had. Tonight's game was their third game that went into overtime. This one was long. They played two overtime periods and finally went to the penalty kick phase. Unfortunately for Notre Dame, Wake was victorious. They were successful with 5 penalty kicks as opposed to Notre Dame's 4.

What a day! It was so much fun. The way things played out today will make for an interesting tournament bracket. Of course we'll have to see what the rest of the week holds.

After showers, the hot spot tonight was the Fir Tree. The kids had really worked up an appetite. It always smells so great. Tonight's favorite's included root beer floats and bacon, egg and cheese bagels.

Water Country

Yesterday the gang went to Water Country, USA in Williamsburg. They departed early and arrived home late. It was a hot steamy day. Perfect for a water park. As soon as I have the waterproof cameras back from the conference directors, I'll update the blog. Until then enjoy your day!
