We woke up to the sounds of rain yesterday. Lots and lots of rain! The forecast? More rain! As it turned out the rain was on and off all morning. We had some playoff games to get through and we played them anyway.
In addition to playing "slip and slide" at the soccer field, Ohio State and Miami played a semi-final game. The falling rain and soaked field didn't seem to slow down the Buckeyes. They beat Miami 6-0.
The lacrosse game was played on our lower turf field so the rain wasn't such a factor. LSU and Yale traded scores throughout the game. When time ran out it was Yale over LSU 13-12. LSU almost upset Yale, but Yale pulled through the way they have throughout camp. Way to Go Bulldogs!
Boys always seem to find something "competitive" to do. While taking shelter from the rain campers spread out over the wrestling mats and began arm wrestling.
After canteen UVA and LSU headed out to the still soaked soccer field. This was another tight game for LSU. Unfortunately they came up short again losing to UVA 5-4. Ohio State was involved in another game during the second morning session. This time they faced the Aggies on the football field. The Buckeyes shut out Texas AM 20-0. Dry and inside on the handball court Notre Dame and UNC played a very exciting game. It seemed like they traded scores on each possession! Final score 18-15 UNC.
Texas AM and Michigan faced off in hockey after rest period. This game went into overtime. In the end the Wolverine's were victorious. The final score was 7-6. It was so intense inside the Barbee during this one.
The football game between Miami and LSU yesterday afternoon did not disappoint. These are two of our highest scoring teams in camp. Both teams have "explosive" offenses. With only 31 seconds left in the 4th quarter, LSU scored to take the win 20-19. It was a heart breaker for Miami.
There were so many great games yesterday. The finale was the semi-final basketball game between Ohio State and Yale. We decided to play this game in the Dick Gym. The game needed to be played at 8pm which is normally our Fir Tree and values meeting time, so it made sense to play the game up the hill so that other teams could watch. It was also a big thrill for for the two teams playing the game. The younger guys that make up the "B" team for Ohio State must have really been excited to play this game in the Dick. They were hot! They were shooting 3's like it was their job! With the amazing play of the Buckeye B's and their always strong A team, the Bulldogs from Yale just couldn't catch up. The final score was 54-34.
Today is a "sleep-in" day. Breakfast is at 9am and then we are off to the 4th of July competitions. We have a fun day in store for the campers which will end at the outdoor pool with a cook out. Enjoy your day and Happy 4th of July!
