Our morning began as usual on the Dick Gym steps. The MVP of each sport was awarded and then Coach Alexander gave out a couple of staff awards. It was then time for a day full of championship games.
5 different teams can call themselves champions. We played 7 final games and a few consolation games as well. It was a great last day of the 2013 Sports Camp.
On the lacrosse field the Ohio State Buckeyes and Yale faced off. Yale dominated the entire game. If Ohio State got a goal, Yale answered swiftly. Bulldog Power!
Mid-morning we could choose to watch the hockey final or the football final. There was a pretty good crowd at each location. Inside Miami and Virginia faced off on the hockey court. It was a tight game until Miami pulled ahead for the win 3-1.
Out on Hanes field a very defensive football game was taking place. The only score in the game came on a quick pop pass to one of the fastest little guys in camp. He went all the way and then the extra point was good. It was a real heart breaker for Ohio State and a well deserved win by LSU. The final - 7-0 LSU.
After lunch the big show was in the Dick Gym. Notre Dame and Ohio State played an exciting game that actually went into overtime. The thrill of victory went to Notre Dame and the agony of defeat to Ohio State. It was Ohio State's third and probably toughest loss of the day. The final score Irish - 38 Buckeyes 35 OT.
Right after the basketball game the camp headed down the hill for the softball match up between Wake Forest and LSU. The game went scoreless for 4 innings and then a couple of good hits put runners in place. LSU pulled off their second championship of the day winning 4-5.
After canteen Ohio State and Virginia met on the soccer field. This time Ohio State was rested and came out with spunk and energy. They dominated the offensive play and pulled off the win. The final score was 4-0.
The final game of the day came in the evening after dinner. Ohio State and Yale met up for the second time. This time they played handball. The score went back and forth for the first 3 quarters. In the 4th, however, Ohio State pulled ahead for good. The final was 14-10.
Soon after the Handball Championship, we all raced down to the campfire site. The final campfire is always exciting. In addition to the skits and camper of the week awards, the Tiger Awards and Honor Camper awards are given out. The skits once again did not disappoint. Texas ended up being the winner. The final cleanest room contest went to Miami. It was a great final campfire night.
All is well at The Forest. See you soon!
