Learning To Be Responsible

At Sports Camp we aren't just teaching sports. On dorm our campers and counselors are responsible for making their beds and keeping their room tidy. Each morning Coach Gay and his young son Spencer travel from dorm to dorm and room to room. They assess each room and assign a score from 1 - 5. 5 is the highest score. Spencer and Colin look to see if the bed is made, the floor is clean, the lights are off, and if the fans are off. Each week the scores are tallied by team. The team with the highest score is awarded a pizza party on dorm the night of the campfire. This past Friday night Kentucky received this honor. They beat Yale by one point. Poor Yale they also placed second in the skit contest.

We had one hiccup yesterday and that was a quick storm during the afternoon game period. We'll have to make up football, soccer, softball, and lacrosse some time today. Otherwise it was a game day to remember. So many OT's!

During the morning session of soccer we saw Auburn win in the last seconds of the first overtime period. They beat the Irish 3-2. Adjacent to the soccer field we saw Alabama pull past UNC in the last seconds of their overtime session. The score was 8-7. Both teams' A & B squads have been successful so far. They'll be among the teams to watch as the lacrosse tournament progresses.  Inside at hockey Brown beat Texas in overtime. A hockey game in overtime is one of the most exciting events to watch. The Barbee can get really loud and it just adds to an already thrilling event!

We're looking forward to a full day today. We've slept in and it was much needed. I heard kids talking yesterday about the opportunity for a sleep-in on Sunday. Even though they seem to 'sprint' to everything I think they're all a little tired and welcome any extra rest.

Tonight we're going to try and finish up early so that everyone has a chance to see the USA in World Cup action. When Coach Alexander announced this at the post-dinner meeting there were loud cheers from the entire camp.

Enjoy your day!
