We had playoff games, consolation games, Indoor pool, climbing wall, climbing tower, heat, humidity, and a storm! Our theme for the day was HYDRATE and PERSEVERE!
It was an amazing day for the Brown Bears. Brown defeated NC State by a score of 8-3 to win the Softball Tournament. This was a big upset because Brown was the #6 seed and #1 NC State dominated the previous games of the tournament. The Pack just couldn't get a rally going in their game against Brown. Earlier in the day they scored 10 runs against Georgia and 14 against Yale.
The Bears had a fantastic day excelling in both lacrosse and handball as well. They find themselves in the lacrosse championship which will be played this morning. It should be a good match up as Alabama is the 4 seed and Brown is the 3 seed. I was so impressed by Brown's performance in handball yesterday. Speaking with their coach afterwards, he told me they only recently introduced a new defense. It's a good one because yesterday they shut down UNC who had previously been the top scoring team in handball and the #1 seed. Go Bears!
While teams still alive in the tournament were busy playing their games or practicing other teams were doing things like Water Polo in the indoor pool or climbing the indoor wall as well as the outdoor.
Other semi-final games include: Soccer #9 Notre Dame vs #12 UNC, ND wins 2-1. They'll play Yale in the championship. Yale was just too much for Alabama yesterday. Alabama's offense moved the ball well and controlled the field for most of the game but they couldn't match the speed of Yale's best player. The final there was #6 Bama 2, #7 Yale 4. Earlier in the day #1 Alabama defeated #4 Auburn in the football semi-final. The score there was 19-6. Auburn has a passing offense but it just couldn't find success against the Tide's pass rush. The other semi-final football game was Michigan vs. Brown. It was a close one but the Wolverine's managed to hold the lead and finished 19-12. Alabama found themselves in a semi-final match up against Yale in lacrosse. This time Bama finished ahead by a score of 10-5. In the other semi-final lacrosse game Brown defeated Harvard 11-5. The hockey semi-final with Oregon and West Point went into overtime. The final there was West Point 3, Oregon 2. UNC and Auburn meet up for the other semi-final this morning so West Point will have to wait and see who they play in the championship game. For the complete breakdown see the below brackets.
We had planned to finish the day with the Football Championship at 8pm and the soccer final at 9pm. Lights were brought in so that we could play these games on Hanes Field. Unfortunately halfway into the 3rd quarter of the football game we had to stop play in order to beat the storm and get the kids back on dorm. Play will resume today. So far Bama is ahead of Michigan by three touchdowns. The Wolverines have plenty of time to catch up.
