Welcome to Woodberry!

Yesterday we welcomed 192 campers to the 48th Woodberry Forest Sports Camp. This year the camp is made up of 16 teams. It is the largest group of campers to date.

Campers and counselors didn't waste any time getting to know each other. After lunch they assembled at their team table to listen to Coach Alexander address the entire camp and parents. Immediately after, an all camp meeting was held on the Dick Gym steps. The steps will be the morning meeting spot for the next 19 days. The teams then descended down the hill where they were divided into two groups, new campers and veteran campers. Brief organizational meetings were held and then the groups reassembled as teams and went right to work.

During the afternoon session and the evening session, each team was able to get some time practicing every team sport in which they will compete during camp. Inside the Barbee Center the teams were introduced to handball, basketball, dodgeball, and floor hockey. Outside they learned the rules of softball, soccer, lacrosse, and flag football.

Our first day ended with showers and the first 'value' meeting. Nightly the teams will meet as a group to discuss the value for the evening. Last night's topic was 'goal setting'. Each team set a goal which they will strive to accomplish throughout camp.

We're up and running this morning and looking forward to a glorious full day at the 48th running of Sports Camp! By clicking on the links titled 'Opening Day 2015' and 'Team Practice June 14 2015' below, you will be taken to Google Photos where you may download photos to your computer. Enjoy!
