To start the day, Oregon and West Point played two overtime periods in soccer. At the end of regulation there was no score. They played two more ten minute periods... still no score! West Point ended up beating Oregon by making 4 penalty kicks to Oregon's 1. Oregon would suffer two more losses and one win yesterday. They're still alive in softball but were taken down by Notre Dame in football and Navy in basketball.
Michigan is making headlines today because of their outstanding performance on the football field. They're playing with so much grit and toughness. Their first game of the day was against Auburn. They pulled off this win 21-20. After dinner they had to play again. This time they met up with Penn State. Both teams have incredible talent. The game was fun to watch. In the end Michigan won 20-19.
The basketball games have been pretty exciting as well. Georgia and West Point scored big in their morning game. West Point pulled off the win 45-43. Both the A and B squads for these teams can make buckets! During the afternoon session, West Point seemed to meet their match. Navy scored 56 to West Point's 49. The Cadets trailed a good part of the game but the fourth quarter really heated up. I thought West Point would prevail. They gave Navy quite a run! Navy went on to win again later in the evening beating Oregon 38-34.
Brown and LSU met up on the soccer field after lunch. They played one overtime period. At the end of regulation it was tied and LSU ended up winning 4-2. One thing I have to say about Brown is that they seem to have the most fun of any team. Their antics on the sideline can be quite intimidating to the other team. They have this way of "getting inside your head" as one of the other coaches commented. They laugh and cheer continuously even when things are going wrong. This seemed to work for Brown at times yesterday. They had another close game against Kentucky on the lacrosse field. Kentucky had more talent but Brown wouldn't back down. Their B team kept scoring. Finally Kentucky pulled ahead by one goal and got the win - 6-5.
How about those Nittany Lions? Penn State had a pretty good day. Although they suffered a disappointing loss on the football field, they are still alive in Softball and hockey. They played extra innings to beat UNC in softball and narrowly beat Notre Dame in hockey.
Although we played a lot of games yesterday, we still have thirty eight to go before we crown the champions! Teams with gaps in their schedule over the last couple of days were fortunate enough to spend time at our indoor climbing wall with Coach LaVoie, our director of Outdoor Education. So far five campers have accomplished the Traverse Challenge! The kids are really having a great time at the climbing wall. Thanks Coach LaVoie!
There are no games scheduled today but we're looking forward to getting back on track tomorrow. Enjoy your day!
